The European Parliament’s environment committee adopted a resolution which calls on the European Commission to strengthen its circular economy monitoring framework by implementing strong indicators.

The draft motion suggests amendments to a European Commission communication plan to implement a monitoring framework for the circular economy, which is composed of 10 indicators that aim to track whether member states have taken sufficient action to meet their circular economy objectives.

The resolution also urges the Commission to speed up the development of methodologies and the collection of data that can be used as green public procurement and food waste indicators.

The report resolution is expected to be voted at the next plenary in October.
