ROSEWOOD release of results – Map Viewer, Roadmaps and Coaching Methodology

Official Press Release

For the transition towards a bio-based economy, renewable materials serving as feedstocks must be mobilised sustainably and innovative products integrated into circular economy value chains. On a European level, approaches to reach sustainable wood mobilisation are diverse, but exchange and cooperation among regions are scarce. The ROSEWOOD network’s central objective is to foster knowledge transfer in the forestry and wood sector across Europe. The network's four regional Hubs provide a platform for exchange, bringing together experts and stakeholders from the entire wood value chain.

A unique repository of projects, initiatives and innovations for the forestry community – the ROSEWOOD Map Viewer

To initiate the discussion about sustainable wood mobilisation, the 15 partners of the ROSEWOOD project that represent in total 10 different countries, identified exemplary Best Practices and Innovations in various forestry-related domains, from forest management to timber recycling. Just this month, the project released the ROSEWOOD Map viewer, an online platform making the network’s rich database of Best Practices and Innovations available to the public. The Map Viewer features, as the name indicates, a map of Europe, showing the locations of Best Practice cases and several indicators to filter search results. The goal is to continuously expand the database with new entries; the ROSEWOOD partners therefore welcome suggestions of exemplary projects, initiatives or innovations.

Paving the way towards sustainable wood mobilisation – the ROSEWOOD roadmaps

For all European regions represented in the project, the partners drafted individual roadmaps, outlining shortcomings, strengths and opportunities for sustainable wood mobilisation, while highlighting Best Practices and Innovations selected by ROSEWOOD that may strengthen regional wood valorisation. The ROSEWOOD roadmaps for sustainable wood mobilisation have now been published on the project website along with a comprehensive report describing the methodology and summarizing the findings on the Hub level.

Guidance on innovation transfer for cluster managers and practioners – the ROSEWOOD coaching methodologies

With the Map Viewer ROSEWOOD providing a unique platform and knowledge repository for the forestry and wood community, ROSEWOOD moreover delivers hands-down advice and support to all stakeholder interested in transferring a particular Best Practice or Innovation case from outside to their region. The project developed to this end a coaching methodology. The tools included in the methodology allow preparing and driving the implementation of new projects based on a thorough analysis of the frameworks in advance.

Save the Date – ROSEWOOD Final Conference in Florence

The findings of the ROSEWOOD network will be presented to the public in the final conference on January 15th and 16th, 2020, in Florence, Italy. The event will be co-organised with the 2020 edition of the Forest Innovation Workshop, a joint initiative of relevant European organizations interested in keeping the forest-based sector vital and innovative.
