On 24 November, the EOS & CEI-Bois public affairs Director, Paul Brannen attended the high-level conference " New European Bauhaus Goes Into The Woods". On this occasion, the European decision-makers convened at the Finnish Nature Centre Haltia in Espoo to explore solutions forests can offer in the pursuit of good living environments. Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s guests at the Into the Woods event were: President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, European Commissioner for Environment Virginijus Sinkevi?ius, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and Swedish Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch. Minister of the Environment and Climate Change Maria Ohisalo and Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Antti Kurvinen took also part in the event.
The Into the Woods event was organised by the European Commission, Sweden and Estonia together with Finland.
The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated: "Wood-based products have an enormous potential to replace fossil-based products. …On the demand side, we need to do more to promote the use of long-lived biomaterials, like quality wood for construction. This is indeed where the New European Bauhaus comes into play. We want to improve people's lives by designing and building sustainably".
