Oak products export to Turkey
EOS has been informed of a new regulation on plant quarantine in Turkey which was published in the Official Turkish Gazette and entered into force as of 4 August (90 days after the publication on 6 May). These requirements do not seem to constitute an import ban.
The most significant change in the regulation directly affecting customs procedures is the mandatory plant health inspection at the point of initial entry. Accordingly, official inspections of products subject to agricultural quarantine will only be completed at the border crossing, port, or authorised entry customs office where the product first enters the Turkish Customs Territory. Shipments sent to inland customs without first being inspected at the point of initial entry will not be opened at inland customs and will be returned to the border crossing or port customs office where they first entered so that official inspections can be carried out.
Therefore, initial entry checks are becoming a mandatory practice, not just a recommendation. The measures concern, among others, oak products.
